NFL Flag Season is here!
Join us for the Seahawks Flag Football League, backed by the Seattle Seahawks. With many locations throughout the State of Washington, NFL FLAG offers co-ed and all girls teams to youth ages 4 to 14 years old.
Is your league an NFL FLAG league?
The NFL FLAG stamp of approval is the ultimate sign of quality. With 2,000 locally operated leagues and over 500,000 youth athletes, NFL FLAG is the largest, most recognized flag football organization in the U.S.—and the only one where players wear official NFL gear. Check for the logo or search for a league near you on the official website at www.NFLFLAG.com
Why NFL FLAG?
Flag football is one of the fastest growing youth sports in the country—and it’s easy to see why. As a non-contact team sport, kids get all the skill, emotional, and social benefits of playing football, without the physical contact.
But more than anything, flag football is pure fun—no matter your skill level. Teams compete 5 on 5, creating tons of engagement on the field at a fast-moving pace.
Here’s why over 500,000 athletes choose NFL FLAG football:
- Nail the fundamentals: Whether you’re new to the game, a seasoned player, or interested in making the transition to tackle, flag football is the perfect environment to develop your skills and improve your technique.
- Convenient commitment: We know your schedule is already jam-packed. That’s why NFL FLAG teams meet once per week to briefly practice before games each Sunday. At this time we offer two seasons - Spring and Fall, that last approximately 7 weeks. We offer a summer camp at our Shoreline location as well!
- Non-contact sport: Simply put: no forceful contact is allowed—no tackling, no blocking, and no screening—making flag football the right choice for many families. Plus, no contact also means no bulky, expensive equipment. It is football so the players will have some contact but it is as minimal as possible.
- Accessibility: Everyone can play flag football. You don’t need a specific build or skill set. And with NFL FLAG leagues being co-ed, everyone can join in on the fun.
- Play like the pros: NFL FLAG is the only flag football league that allows players to wear officially licensed NFL gear. Look like the pros and play like the pros!
- Several locations: Leagues are currently available around the Puget Sound, Spokane Valley, and Tri-Cities area, with additional locations in the works.

In fact, NFL FLAG is the only flag football league that allows players to wear officially licensed NFL gear. What are the NFL FLAG rules?
NFL FLAG is a non-contact sport. There’s no diving, blocking, screening, or tackling allowed. Instead, to “tackle” the person in possession of the ball, the opposing team needs to pull one or both of their flags off. For a complete list of NFL FLAG rules, visit our website.
How are Individual Players Placed on Teams?
This is a league designed to keep schoolmates and friends playing together. Therefore, individuals are placed on teams determined by school, a buddy request, coach request, grade and age factors. Our goal is for each elementary and middle school to have their own flag football teams. Teams are formed using a combination of the following criteria (listed in no specific order):
School affiliation
Current Grade/Age
A Buddy Request (We try to accommodate requests however, refunds are not provided due to an unfulfilled request)
Coach Requests (We try to accommodate requests however, refunds are not provided due to an unfulfilled request)
How many players are on a team?
Most teams have 8-10 players. However, we do reserve the right to stretch these guidelines if the league deems necessary.
Does the league supply uniforms?
Every Flag Football player in our program receives an NFL reversible team jersey and a flag belt to keep with your registration.
Who are the coaches?
Parent, family, or community volunteers! Seahawks Flag Football does not provide coaches. Once teams are assembled, parents will be recruited to coach and manage their team. Training is provided for all parents who wish to be a coach. No experience is necessary! If we are unable to secure a coach for your child's team before the season begins, every effort will be made to place your child on a new team. We need family members from all our players to be willing to help in some capacity: Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager, communications, snack, picture day, sideline organization, games, drills, plays, position rotation and equal playing time. Assistance in any of these areas will greatly enhance the experience for your player as well as the other volunteers. There is a space for 3 volunteers on each team and each will receive a coaches shirt.
Who are the Officials and are they qualified?
Most of our referees are NFL Flag certified. Each official is trained, licensed, insured and certified through the state. They are very good at what they do and will call a fair game for both sides. Many officials do participate in different forms of football with different rule sets. Due to this we do have a rule check for coaches. Please see below!
What if an Official makes a mistake and enforces a rule incorrectly?
All coaches have a “Challenge” they can use each game. If it is successful they will have a second one and keep their timeout. If they are incorrect in their challenge they will lose it along with a timeout. When a coach challenges a rule enforcement or penalty the game pauses for the referee and coach to review the rule book and ensure everything is being abided by. This helps to ensure no BIG officiating errors drastically impact the outcome of games.
How much playing time can my child expect?
All of our programs promote participation, fun, and fundamentals. Coaches are required to allocate playing time fairly among all players on the team. We will do our best to assure all players receive equal playing time.
What do I get for my registration fee?
A seven-week season including practices, use of well groomed turf stadium fields, certified officials, NFL FLAG reversible team jersey, flag belt and flags, interactive website, organized administration, and a lot of FUN for you and your child!
Are there playoffs?
For our Madden and Shula divisions only (2nd grade and up). After the fifth game, all Madden/Shula teams will be seeded based on in-season wins, losses, and ties. The top 4 teams in each Madden/Shula division will participate in a semi-final playoff game the last week of the season. The top 2 teams will then play one additional Championship game immediately following the semi-final game. All other Madden/Shula teams ranked 5th and lower will play a single consolation game against one another. All other divisions (1st grade & under) will not have playoffs, but enjoy their final scheduled game of the season during playoff weekend.
What types of awards are given?
In the Lombardi Division each player will receive an individual participation award. In the Madden/Shula division, the 1st and 2nd place teams will win awards.
